A pub customer who hurled racist abuse at another man before punching him in the face was fined a total of £1,000 when he appeared at Perth Sheriff Court.
Christopher MacDougall admitted attacking Sayf Sohail at the Green Room in Perth on December 17.
MacDougall pleaded guilty to assaulting Mr Sohail by twice punching him in the head and face and to acting in a racially aggravated manner by swearing and shouting racially offensive remarks.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis fined MacDougall, of Allison Crescent, Perth, £500 for each charge.
He was also banned from the music venue for 18 months.
Jim Eodanable, depute fiscal, told the court: “The accused was outside the venue looking in but would not be getting any further (into the venue).
“The complainer and his friend happened to be sitting outside.
“He made comments that were sympathetic and helpful, to the effect that he should go somewhere else. The accused seemed to take great exception to this.”
Solicitor David Holmes, defending, said 23-year-old MacDougall was drunk at the time of the incident.
“Regrettably, the accused thought he was being talked down to,” he said.
