A full investigation is to take place into the current state of Perth Bus Station.
The move follows criticism from city residents, with one woman listing a catalogue of problems at the bus station and branding the ladies’ toilets “a disgrace”.
She also claimed there are long queues at the booking office and said the station’s Busy Bee cafe needs a revamp.
Overall, she suggested, the rundown state of the station badly needs to be addressed.
Another Perth resident, Jim Begg, described the bus station as “disgusting,” and said the condition of the male toilets was no better than the facility for females.
Perth and Kinross Council owns the bus station, though it is managed and staffed by personnel from Scottish Citylink.
A council spokeswoman has now revealed all the points raised by the female Courier reader will be examined but stressed some redecoration of the interior of the bus station has already taken place.
“Perth and Kinross Council takes the points raised by your reader regarding Perth bus station extremely seriously and a full investigation will be carried out,” she said.
“The station toilets are scheduled to be cleaned twice a day by Tayside Contracts and we will seek their views during the investigation.
“The council would add that the interior of the bus station has been redecorated in the last few years and the exterior of the building was redecorated ahead of the Ryder Cup in September 2014.
“The staff at Perth bus station are all employed by Scottish Citylink but we will alert them to the feedback received.”
A spokesperson for Scottish Citylink added: “We expect our staff to deliver excellent customer service at all times and we are concerned to hear of the issues raised on this occasion.
“We would urge the customer to contact us directly to provide specific details so we can look into the circumstances of this particular case.”
Stagecoach East Scotland is one of the operators which uses the bus station but has no responsibility for the maintenance or operation of the facility so felt it would be inappropriate to comment.
