Busy butcher steams ahead in pudding race

While Perthshire whisky will be raised in toasts at Burns suppers across the land, an unsung local ”export” will also grace the nation’s tables.

Simon Howie Foods at Dunning has been working around the clock to make an astounding 500,000 haggis this year.

”At this time of year after a very busy Christmas if we didn’t have the haggis it would be a quiet time of year,” said the firm’s Gary Conacher.

”We are working flat out with a day and night shift working. Around 70% of the haggis head down south.”

Simon Howie shops in Auchterarder and Perth are also doing a roaring trade.
