Police officers have contacted the family of a Perth man who went missing several weeks ago after a body was found in the River Tay.
Emergency services were called to the Friarton Bridge after the discovery was made on Friday morning at around 7.45am.
Robert McLaren was reported missing from Appin Terrace, in the Letham area of Perth, on Thursday February 25.
Police had been conducting searches of the Perthshire area in a bid to trace the 70-year-old.
Mr McLaren was last seen at the Rannoch Road shops in Perth at around 8am on Saturday February 20.
The deceased has yet to be formally identified. However, the family of Mr McLaren has been informed.
Mr McLaren was known locally as Rangers Bob due to his love of the Glasgow football club.
Nancy Spence, who co-runs the Fourty Four bar in Perth where Mr McLaren was a regular, described him as a “lovely man” who would be missed by everyone there.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Inquiries to establish the identity of the person are ongoing.”
