A festival of science is to be staged in Perthshire next month to “enthuse, educate and entertain”.
The programme of events is centred on Crieff and has been organised under the Strathearn Festival of Science banner.
The festival is funded by the Scottish Government, (Office of the Chief Scientific Adviser) and supported by Perth and Kinross Council, Morrison’s Academy and Crieff Succeeds.
Although individual events have been held throughout the area in the past, this is the first year a full science festival programme has been launched.
The activities start on Monday February 23 and will culminate in the festival finale, a free family fun day at Strathearn Community Campus on Saturday February 28.
As well as a variety of activities, a number of organisations including Historic Scotland Our Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh and Glasgow University will take along some of their most popular and family-friendly attractions.
Festival organiser Stuart Cuthbert said: “We have created a programme which will appeal to every man, woman and child in the area from toddlers and secondary pupils on the cusp of making career choices to families and adults living in and around the Strathearn and wider Perthshire area.
“Not only will our activities entertain and intrigue visitors but also highlight that science is everywhere and is to there be explored and enjoyed.”
The adults’ programme will include events such as the science of whisky, zombies and a ceilidh followed by an illuminating after-dinner talk on light, to coincide with 2015 being the International Year of Light.
Pupils will also be taking part, and Girl Guides and Scouts will be carrying out activities as part of their science badge.
