Police to launch summer crackdown on troublesome drinkers

Perth police will today launch a crackdown on anti-social behaviour over the summer months.
Operation Dry-up will be used to target people who offend due to consuming too much alcohol.
Superintendent Jim Leslie said the initiative is introduced in summer due to an ”increase in offending.” It will be applied across Perth and Kinross.
”Some people go to barbecues and, on occasions, tend to drink more alcohol, which affects their behaviour and makes them more vulnerable,” he said.
”Therefore, there tends to be an increase in anti-social behaviour over the summer months.”
Mr Leslie said the initiative will include working with the Friday Night Project and will use existing by-laws to crack down on people who abuse alcohol.
”We will also be working with special constables,” he added.
