Anger after water pollution incident at Perthshire river
ByPaul Reoch
Residents reacted with anger when they discovered a “milky coloured froth,” described as “horrendous,” flowing from a reservoir into a river on their own doorstep in Perthshire.
Scottish Water confirmed they were advising residents living in the Glenfarg area along with farmers and fisherman to keep away from the River Farg and River Earn after they established a quantity of aluminium sulphate had seeped into the watercourse overnight.
They identified that the pollution was located downstream of the Glenfarg Reservoir.
Aluminium sulphate is used in water purification as it causes impurities to coagulate, which are then removed after settling or through filtration.
Despite the warning, Scottish Water authority assured residents that drinking water would not be affected by the pollution.
