A shop manager swung an axe at kitchen units after hearing details of his wife’s extra-marital affair, Perth Sheriff Court has heard. An argument blew up between David Young and his wife after they had returned from a foreign holiday. The enraged 52-year-old left the property and returned with the axe, which he then buried in the worktops of his home at Elcho Lane, Glencarse. Young admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting, swearing, brandishing an axe and striking the units on July 29. Depute fiscal Rebecca Kynaston said the couple had been drinking and, when he confronted her, she admitted having a relationship with another man. Young then directed a number of derogatory terms at his wife before fetching the axe. Ms Kynaston said Young’s wife did not feel that he intended to harm her and she was eventually able to take the axe from him. Solicitor David Holmes, defending, said Young was a first offender and had simply not been able to handle hearing details of the affair. Sheriff Mark Stewart said he would defer sentence on in the case until January or Young to be of good behaviour.
