Perth’s annual agricultural extravaganza has opened on the South Inch.
The event enjoyed a healthy turnout and thousands more are to attend.
In addition to the usual two days of judging horse, cattle and sheep, this year’s event will feature a livestock and rescue horse parade the first such instance in the show’s 152-year history. Rescuecharity World Horse Welfare is to bring several of their charges to the Fair City.
Perthshire Agricultural Society secretary Neil Forbes said: “We’ve never had anything like this before but we feel it’s a charity we need to support. Some of their ponies have turned out to be superb.”
Chairman Roddy Thomson said two specialist breed societies have chosen to hold their national judging events at the show.
“Tomorrow we will be judging the cattle, sheep and goats as well as the heavy horses Clydesdale, Highland and Shetland,” he said.
The afternoon will also feature a number of non-agricultural activities aimed at keeping the crowds happy.
Motorcycle display team Bolddog Lings will entertain crowds with their daredevil displays, while extreme stunt cycling team Clan will also be in attendance.
The Met Office forecasts will become cloudier in the afternoon with persistent rain arriving in Saturday evening, lasting overnight and becoming heavy at times. The maximum temperature will be 19C.
