Residents of a Perthshire village have vented their fury at a mobile phone operator after claiming they have had no service for around two months.
Mrs Marjory Anderson, 63, of Upper Hatton, near Dunkeld, said her bed and breakfast business has suffered as a result and she is laying the blame firmly with O2.
She said she was told several times that the problem would be fixed and that O2 had suggested it had been caused by a “technical problem”.
Despite those assurances, her mobile phone is still not working properly and she is very concerned at the effect on her guests.
“There will be a lot of people coming here during the Ryder Cup and some of them will be trying to phone home but their mobile phones may not work and this is going to cause major difficulties,” she said.
“A lot of the people I speak to in the village are experiencing the same problems and are in the same boat so there is definitely something wrong.
“I am continually hitting a brick wall, with being put on hold, transferred from one department to the other and told it is not their responsibility.”
Mrs Virginia Carlton, of Little Dunkeld, said: “We were told the problem would be fixed by June and then by July 30, but this has come and gone and nothing has happened it’s ridiculous.”
Despite the residents’ protestations, O2 maintained that the service was restored by July 29.
A spokesperson said: “An engineer is on his way to Butterstone to triple check that everything is working and should be on site right now.
“We spoke to both customers today and yesterday and will follow up with them once the engineer has finished at the site.”
