Boy rescued after falling during family hike on Schiehallion

A nine-year-old boy has been recovering in hospital after falling and injuring his leg on one of Perthshire’s biggest mountains.
Tayside Mountain Rescue were assisted by Police Scotland’s search and rescue team, along with 177 squadron from Prestwick at around 4.30pm when they were called to help the boy, who had been hiking on Schiehallion with his parents.
Stuart Johnstone, of Tayside Mountain Rescue, told The Courier: “A young family had been hiking on Schiehallion near the top when their nine-year-old son took a small slip and injured his leg.
“We attended along with Police Scotland’s search and rescue team and the 177 squadron and he was packaged up and taken to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.”
He added: “The family were well equipped for the mountain it was just one of these things.”
And a spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed that their search and rescue team had attended the incident.
The boy’s injury is not thought to be serious. Schiehallion is 3,547 feet high and is known as the ‘fairy hill of the Caledonians.’
