A Perth man has been fined £400 for sending more than 400 texts to a woman following a “one night stand”.
Perth Sheriff Court heard that Ryan Sullivan, 26, of Iona Court, met the woman at a nightclub and was invited back to her home.
Depute fiscal Rebecca Kynaston said: “The accused remained at the house the following morning and the pair exchanged phone numbers.
“However, as far as the woman was concerned, this meeting was a one-off.”
The court heard that Sullivan began texting the woman asking her how she was getting on, thinking “she was interested”.
“From January 12 to February 3 the accused had sent 289 texts to the woman, leading to her asking him to stop,” Mrs Kynaston added.
“However, the accused took no notice and continued to send texts.”
The court heard that Sullivan sent a further 143 text messages to the woman from February 3 to April 23, ending with the woman contacting the police as she “could take no more of this behaviour”.
Solicitor Pauline Cullerton, defending, said the woman did not want to “take the relationship further”.
“My client could not take no for an answer,” she said.
Sullivan admitted that between January 12 and April 27 he caused needless anxiety to a woman by repeatedly sending text messages and making phone calls to her.
Sentencing Sullivan, Sheriff Lindsay Foulis told him: “Maybe I am out of touch, but it seems patently obvious to me that your actions were not reciprocated and that thereafter they constituted a nuisance.”
