A Perthshire centre which provides vital treatment for police officers could be in line for an ambitious £2.7 million redevelopment.
Castlebrae in Auchterarder treats nearly 1,700 injured, ill or recuperating police officers every year.
Helping officers from Scotland, the north of England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the task of raising the funding for the enhanced facilities is now under way.
Until that money is secured no start date can be set but plans have already been prepared and planning permission granted.
The plans for the centre, which operates as a charity, focus on the main treatment areas such as the pool and the rehabilitation gym.
When originally built, these were not designed to cope with the number of patients now being accommodated at the centre.
The development would also include a hydrotherapy pool, a facility the centre, on Auchterarder’s Castleton Road, does not have.
As part of the development, the existing rehab gym and sports studio would also be revamped.
Graeme Addison, of Castlebrae, said: “In terms of numbers of people in need of treatment, it is clearly putting pressure on our existing facilities.”
There will be a modest spin-off benefit during the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, with a company paying a five-figure sum to use some of the facilities.
“The charity is funded primarily from voluntary donations from police officers but we still need to raise a considerable amount each year to fund the services we provide,” said Paul Grant, deputy chief executive and Castlebrae Centre manager.
“As a result, an opportunity has arisen with Ryder Cup Travel Services to use the accommodation facilities at the centre.”
