A planned new store to be built in Perth should provide a “welcome boost” to the area’s regeneration, according to a Fair City councillor.
Peter Barrett told The Courier he believes the addition of the Co-operative shop, which is proposed to be located on the site of the former Chaplinz bar in Main Street, Bridgend, will also improve choice for local shoppers.
He said: “Having the Co-op open a new store would be a really welcome boost towards the regeneration of Bridgend.
“The store will provide late shopping until 11pm and also offers some parking but when the store opens it will be even more important that a one-hour short period of free parking is provided at Back Wynd car park so that people have time and the incentive to park and shop locally and the present store is not disadvantaged.”
A spokesperson for the Co-operative supermarket chain added: “The contractors are on site and the store is scheduled to open later in the autumn.
“It will create around 10 new jobs but we are not recruiting yet.”
