Alistair Darling says referendum will ‘go down to the wire’

The referendum vote will be far closer than most of the population expects, Better Together leader Alistair Darling has conceded.
During a whistle-stop visit to Perth on Tuesday, Mr Darling said the latest YouGov poll, which suggests the No camp is now just six points ahead of the Yes campaign, reflected the changing nature of the referendum.
He said people were “fatigued” with the campaign, but stressed the need for people to vote.
“I have always said that this referendum vote will be far closer than people expect,” he told The Courier.
“There are still a lot of people who are undecided and it will most certainly go down to the wire.
“We will be going flat out to win over as many of those undecideds as possible and to get those who want to see a No vote out to vote.
“This decision is the biggest any one of us will ever take in our lifetime.”
