The next crop of Dundee University students have had their official welcome to the city.
Nearly 2,000 new first year students packed into the Caird Hall for the Freshers’ Welcome.
They were greeted by university principal Professor Pete Downes, Lord Provost Bob Duncan, and rector Brian Cox, as well as other staff and student representatives.
Prof Downes opened the ceremony by listing the positive changes in the city which will help the students.
He said: “The university and our students are an important part of the city, its culture, its economy, and its development.
“It is an exciting time to be in Dundee, with the ongoing transformation of the waterfront, the partnerships which have made the V&A museum in Dundee possible, and with the university leading the debate on Scottish independence through our 5 Million Questions programme.”
The lord provost also made this year’s batch of students aware of the role Dundee can play in the new students’ lives.
He said: “The University of Dundee is a key institution in our city, and one of our most important partners as we look to regenerate Dundee for the future.
“I always enjoy the arriving students at this time of year, and the local shopkeepers also look forward to welcoming them back.”
