Road Haulage Association backing A9 speed cameras trial

A pilot speed limit scheme to be rolled out on the A9 has received the backing of the Road Haulage Association.
Transport Scotland will install the speed cameras along the busy road from Dunblane to Inverness, which will raise the speed limit for vehicles over 7.5 tonnes from 40mph to 50mph on the single carriageway stretches.
A spokeswoman for the Road Haulage Association said their drivers are of the “firm opinion” that it will “improve” compliance levels, driver working conditions, and the economic efficiency of hauliers and other road users.
“Local businesses will also benefit,” she said. “We also believe the trial will show that the reduction in speed differential between cars and HGV will lead to improved safety levels by reducing driver frustration.”
She continued: “We are confident that our industry will support the steps needed to ensure that road safety is not compromised. This will include leaving enough space to allow overtaking vehicles to pull in between vehicles safely.”
