A court has heard how a Perthshire man twice told people he had a knife in incidents that resulted in an assault victim smashing his head through a window.
Ian Campbell, of Bank Street, Alyth, was remanded in custody until sentencing next month after appearing on an indictment before Sheriff Gregor Murray at Forfar on Tuesday.
Campbell admitted assaulting a man in Commercial Street, Alyth, on December 7 last year and breaching the peace by repeatedly shouting and swearing and stating that he had a knife.
He also pleaded guilty to assaulting another man in Airlie Street, Alyth, on December 20, engaging in a fight with him and causing him to strike his head and break a window, to his injury.
Depute fiscal Susan Ruta told the court that in the first incident Campbell grabbed a man by the collar and marched him to the Alyth Hotel, complaining that the victim had been giving a family member cheek.
He told the complainer: “Go in and get everyone out. I’ll take everyone on someone’s going to get stabbed tonight.”
Witnesses didn’t see a knife, but believed the accused was in possession of one, the court heard.
In the second incident, around a fortnight later, Campbell became aggressive towards his victim in Alyth Square for no apparent reason and they began fighting.
“The accused said that he had a knife and as the complainer was walking back there was a thud on the side of his head, causing him to fall through a glass pane,” the fiscal added.
Campbell then began to throw more punches at his victim. Sheriff Murray deferred sentence until October 16 for reports to be obtained.
