A Perth student who captured dramatic footage of a brazen robbery bid in Glasgow city centre has described the incident as like something from video game Grand Theft Auto.
Stunned onlookers watched as a group of four masked individuals targeted jewellery stores at the Argyll Arcade at around 12.45pm.
The gang were seen running from the precinct, armed with a sledgehammer and a hatchet.
The robbery, which sent panicked shoppers running for cover, triggered the centre’s security smoke alarm.
Passer-by Liam Dargie caught the incident on video using his smartphone.
The 21-year-old told The Courier: “I was just on my way to college when I saw the masked men running out of the arcade carrying a sledgehammer and what looks like a hatchet. They ran out of the smoke filled arcade and into the side street.”
He said he was amazed when his 30-second film quickly went viral around the world.
