Fife woman stole train luggage to help buy prison drugs

A woman stole a man’s luggage on a train to help her former partner buy drugs, Perth Sheriff Court has heard.
Depute fiscal Bill Kermode told the court the owner of the luggage boarded an Inverkeithing to Inverness train and sat in his allocated seat.
“About an hour later, he found his luggage was missing,” he said.
“A search of the train didn’t find the luggage.”
The court heard that police later viewed CCTV footage which showed Sindy Reekie, 36, of Marion Street, Kirkcaldy, making her way through the train, removing the luggage from the rack and then standing in the train “vestibule”.
The luggage was valued at £250.
Reekie’s solicitor said she had wanted to give a former boyfriend money so he could buy drugs while in prison.
She had admitted that on September 30 last year in the course of a journey between Kirkcaldy Station and Perth Station she stole a luggage case and its contents.
Sentencing Reekie, Sheriff Michael Fletcher told her: “Stealing this luggage would no doubt cause considerable distress for this man. The only option is for a custodial sentence.”
The sheriff sent Reekie to prison for five months and backdated the sentence to August 27.
