A last-minute call has been issued for women to take part in the Macmillan Cycletta Scotland, which is being held at Scone Palace on Sunday October 5.

The event series, backed by Olympic athlete Victoria Pendleton, will be opened by Commonwealth Games cyclist Charline Joiner, television personality Cat Cubie and British slalom skier Charlie Guest.

Organisers are expecting more than 600 women to take part.

Chief executive officer of event organisers Human Race, Nick Rusling, said: “We’re really excited about our second Macmillan Cycletta event in Scotland and, with such a positive response, we’re sure there are a few more ladies out there who might want to take part and we don’t want them to miss out.

“The stunning Perthshire landscape enables us to offer course options to suit all abilities not to mention the location of the start and finish line in the grounds of the historic Scone Palace so, whether you’re a regular cyclist or you’ve not been on a bike in years there’s a distance option for you.”

Many of the participants are raising money for partner charity Macmillan Cancer Support.

The event is open to women aged 12 and up (though anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult) and offers distances from 20km up.

For women who want to set themselves a bigger challenge, there is a classic distance of 40 km and, for those who want to push themselves further, a challenge distance of 63km and a 100km Macmillan distance is already proving the most popular.
