A heartbroken Perthshire man told his ex-girlfriend to slash her wrists in a series of menacing text messages.
Andrew Linn urged his former partner to kill herself after learning that she had slept with another man, a court heard.
He later called for emergency services to attend at her home in Auchterarder, saying that she had tried to commit suicide.
The 22-year-old appeared from custody at Perth Sheriff Court on Tuesday and admitted sending “grossly offensive” texts to the woman in the early hours of Monday morning.
He also pleaded guilty to a further charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause fear or alarm.
Depute fiscal Bill Kermode said Linn, of High Street, Auchterarder, had been in a relationship with the woman for several months.
He said that she had ended the relationship earlier this summer but Linn believed they were still together.
After a night out in the village, she admitted to Linn that she had slept with another man and invited him back to her home to discuss it.
The court was told that the woman’s flatmate heard them come inside and, a short time later, he heard Linn shouting and swearing “incoherent abuse”.
A short time after Linn left the property, the woman received a text from him telling her to kill herself and calling her an abusive name.
He sent a follow-up text, telling her to cut her wrists, adding: “Die, you wretch.”
Just after 2am, Linn called for an ambulance and said his ex had tried to kill herself at her home address.
Solicitor Aimee Gibbons, representing Linn, said he had called for an ambulance because he was concerned about his ex-girlfriend’s safety.
“He’s not naturally an aggressive person but he was deeply distraught that the woman who he loved and thought had loved him had slept with someone else,” she said.
Sheriff Michael Fletcher deferred sentence for three months, until December 17, and order Linn to stay out of trouble.
