Perth will be counting down to Christmas with its biggest ever street party worth tens of thousands of pounds.
Plans are under way for the city’s annual Winter Festival, which will launch around Bonfire Night and run until Chinese New Year in February.
The highlight will be the city’s traditional Christmas lights switch-on ceremony, which has grown in size over recent years.
Council bosses hope they can repeat, or even beat, the success of last year’s ceremony which delivered a £1.5 million boost to the area, despite controversy over its guest celebrity, Mark Wright of the Only Way is Essex fame.Councillors will be asked to approve funding for next month’s switch-on show.
They will be urged to pass proposals for a second day of celebrations, making this year’s event bigger than ever.
The whole shebang is expected to cost more than £130,000 to stage, although more money will be needed to pay performers’ fees.
The show, which will begin on Saturday November 22, will also include a procession led by Santa Claus, followed by a massive fireworks display.
