Yellow paint will be in short supply if elected members back plans to introduce a raft of new parking restrictions on the streets of Perth city and Kinross.
Council chiefs believe the creation of a number of new no-parking zones will alleviate congestion and improve the lives of residents.
The double yellows will be introduced on busy streets where “indiscriminate” parking has long been a problem.
Many of the steps have long been called for by residents and businesses who have grown tired of day-long “commuter” parking and of motorists parking across drives and on corners.
Within Perth, the changes would affect Jeanfield Road, Whitefriars Crescent, Dunkeld Road and Gannochy Road.
On Jeanfield Road, residents near the access to Perth Royal Infirmary and the local grocery store have expressed concerns about access and indiscriminate parking, mainly during the day, when motorists park to visit both premises.
Householders have long complained that motorists park close to, and at times over, their driveways, often for several hours.
The proposals have been hailed by many, though retired and disabled members of the community have raised concerns about the loss of residents’ parking.
The council, however, believes that the measures will deter commuters but allow residential parking in the evening and early morning.
In Whitefriars Crescent business owners have expressed concerns that motorists regularly park close to, and across, the accesses to their premises, making it “extremely dangerous” for clients and staff.
Safety concerns are also behind the introduction of daytime parking restrictions in Gannochy Road, where a combination of parked cars and motorists attempting to avoid congestion at Bridgend have made it increasingly difficult for residents to exit their driveways.
Within Kinross, new “no waiting at any time” restrictions will be imposed on a number of streets after several issues of indiscriminate parking were identified.
The council proposes to install additional waiting restrictions at Talla Park and Avenue Road and extend the existing restrictions at Clashburn Road.
A local business owner also expressed concerns regarding access issues on the approaches to the Pier caf. As a result, it is proposed to install more waiting restrictions at Burns Begg Street, Pier Road, Sandport and Sandport Gait to allow better access, particularly for coaches and large vehicles.
Waiting restrictions on a section of the High Street, outside the police station, will be removed as unnecessary after the closure of Kinross High School.
