Police firearms officer ‘dispatches’ cow at Perth abattoir

A police marksman was called to a Perth abattoir this week after a cow made a bid for freedom.
The animal was on the loose within and outside Anglo Beef Processors (ABP) at Inveralmond and when staff efforts to restrain it were unsuccessful, they contacted the police, who sent a firearms officer.
“Tayside Police attended in the area of Inveralmond Industrial Estate, Perth, at about 7.20am on Thursday following a report of a cow that had escaped from a nearby abattoir that was presenting a danger to motorists and the public,” said a police spokesman.
“It was not possible to secure and control the cow and so a trained firearms officer was required to dispatch the animal.”
