Delays expected during new work on Friarton Bridge

Motorists are being warned to expect delays when work begins on the Friarton Bridge at Perth on Monday.
Lane closures on both the northbound and southbound carriageways will be put in place, with inspection of the bridge using a specialist vehicle taking place between 9.30am and 3.30pm for the first five days of the two-week schedule.
The work, which is part of a six years inspection programme, will then take place between 7.30pm and 7.30am until it is complete.
Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s north east unit representative, explained the need for the work.
He said: “The work we are carrying out will ensure the continued safe use of the bridge. We have planned these works to minimise disruption. However, some delays are possible.
“We would encourage motorists to allow extra time for their journeys.”
The latest project follows nine weeks of maintenance work which was carried out on the Friarton Bridge in January and February.
A £450,000 investment by Transport Scotland resulted in work being carried out on the bridge and involved the upgrading of the existing central reservation safety barrier.
The Friarton Bridge sees around 35,000 vehicles cross it daily.
