A shamed shoplifter was ribbed for his taste in wine as he sat in the dock at Perth Sheriff Court. Michael McLaughlin admitted stealing two £5 bottles from the Tesco store in the city’s Crieff Road on August 28 last year. Depute fiscal Stuart Richardson told the court: “This is a bog-standard shoplifting of two bottles of not very good wine. “He stuffed them down his trousers and attempted to leave but was spotted and stopped by staff.” Sheriff William Wood commented: “This a rather scathing indictment of Mr McLaughlin’s palate.” He deferred sentence on the 22-year-old, of Perth High Street, until March 13.
