Transport minister says A9 upgrade ‘should have been done years ago’

Scotland’s transport minister Keith Brown says dualling the notorious A9 should have taken place years ago.
He told The Courier that past Governments should have started the process of improving the road, on the same day he announced a new safety campaign entitled ‘Think Before Overtaking’ at the House of Bruar in Highland Perthshire.
Mr Brown said the Scottish Government are on track with their plans to dual the A9 between Perth and Inverness by 2025, with a series of road safety measures rolled out before then. This will include a £3.4 million programme to install speed cameras on the route later this year.
There has been a concerted campaign for years to dual the A9, including backing from The Courier, and Mr Brown feels it should have been tackled some time ago.
“There has been a campaign for years and I think it (dualling) should have been done years ago,” he said.
“I’ve been travelling up this road since I was a kid not driving at that time, but coming up with my family and it took us eight hours to come up from Edinburgh up to Brora and it was always a long journey.”
