A path in Almondbank has collapsed into the river, leaving a manhole sitting 2ft out into the water.
The river Almond in spate saw the path being swamped, with the manhole cover now sitting on a pillar. Several feet of the footpath has been washed away and safety fencing is dangling into the water.
A Perth and Kinross Council spokeswoman said it would replace fencing in the interests of public safety but responsibility for the area lies with the landowner.
She said: “The land adjacent to the river Almond at Almondbank has been eroding for some time now.
“The erosion increased with the high flows over the weekend and, as a result, a manhole has become more exposed.
“This area is covered by the recently confirmed Almondbank Flood Scheme, which includes proposals to address the erosion. However, while the council has the legal powers to build the scheme, the detailed design hasn’t yet been carried out and funding is still to be secured. In the meantime, it remains the responsibility of landowners to act.”
