The headteacher at a Perth and Kinross primary school has been questioned by police about an alleged assault on a pupil.
Police confirmed that an individual had been reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with an alleged incident at the school in January.
The teacher in question has moved from that post to another role until the issue is resolved.
Parents at the school remained tight-lipped about the nature of the allegation.
“I have heard rumours but I don’t know if they are true,” one parent said. “We really don’t know what is going on.”
A number of parents knew there had been an incident but were unable, or unwilling, to elaborate, with one saying: “All parents received a letter saying the head was moving to other duties. It was pretty swift.”
A spokesman for Perth and Kinross Council said: “We do not comment on individual staff matters.”
MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife Liz Smith said she hoped the issue could be dealt with urgently for the sake of all concerned.
“It is not appropriate for me to comment on the individual concerned but I hope the matter will be resolved as quickly as possible,” she said.
“It is very important that parents, teachers and pupils all have full confidence in the school.”
Murdo Fraser MSP said: “Until the full details of this incident are known it would be inappropriate to speculate.
“However, in no circumstance can it be acceptable for a teacher, let alone a head teacher, to assault a child, and anyone who does so must be held accountable for their actions.”
