A football spectator subjected a referee to homophobic abuse after disagreeing with a decision.
Dale Ritchie was on the sidelines at Victory Park, Bridge of Earn, during a match that was “full of tension” on April 13 last year.
The 25-year-old directed his ire towards official Joseph Richardson, attacking him verbally using a number of slurs.
Ritchie admitted a breach of the peace that was aggravated by prejudice against sexual orientation.
Depute fiscal Chris McIntosh told Perth Sheriff Court that Ritchie became abusive when Mr Richardson “made a decision that was contentious, at least in the eyes of the accused”.
Mr McIntosh added that Ritchie had said: “The only reason you referee is so you can watch men in tight shorts.”
Mr Richardson reported the incident to police after being encouraged to do so by Scottish Football Association bosses.
Defence solicitor Billy Sommerville said Ritchie had been drinking at the time.
Sheriff Michael Fletcher ordered Ritchie, of Newhouse Road, Perth, to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.
