Gardeners’ goodwill helps breath new life into Perth community centre
BySandra Gray
Green-fingered volunteers have helped breathe new life into a city centre community centre.
Members of Perth Rotary, Alzheimer Scotland, Perth Soroptimists and the Woodland Trust joined staff and carers from Perth and Kinross Council to plant a hedge at the New Rannoch Centre on Saturday.
It is run by the council to support older people with dementia so they can still play an active part in their communities.
As part of its efforts to become a key part of the community, the centre will open its garden for various events and functions.
Residents will also have the chance to volunteer at the centre by helping with garden maintenance and supporting people with dementia by undertaking a range of activities.
In return, they will be welcome to use areas of the green space to grown their own fruit, vegetables and flowers.
The New Rannoch carers involvement group has thanked all who supported the garden project by providing funding, materials or volunteers or just by offering a kind word.
