The number of councillors in Perth and Kinross is expected to be cut after an electoral review and Falkirk could also be hit.
A report by the Perth and Kinross Council head of democratic services Gillian Taylor reveals it has been asked to reduce the number of councillors from 41 to 40.
The council has to respond to the suggestion by the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland this week.
She said: “The council’s current electoral arrangements, with 41 members in 12 multi-member wards, are set out in the Perth and Kinross (Electoral Arrangements) Order 2006.
“The order came into force on July 14 2006, following the fourth statutory review of electoral arrangements by the commission.
“The review had been undertaken as required by the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, which introduced multi-member wards.”
In a letter written by Dr Hugh Buchanan, secretary of the Local Government Boundary Commission to Scotland, sent to Ms Taylor, he states that consultations on the electoral proposals took place in February and will end on Wednesday.
He stressed these talks took place with political parties, electoral registration officers and community councils.
In her report, which will be discussed at a special council meeting arranged for Wednesday, Ms Taylor will tell councillors she had been told the commission would look at the electorate numbers for the designated Perth City area “in the context” of the electorate numbers for the rest of the Perth and Kinross Council area.
“The commission is required to submit a final report to Scottish ministers in May 2016 with a view to revised boundaries being in place for the scheduled local government elections in May 2017,” she added.
