Spirits were high among the crowds as a season of events at Perth Racecourse got under starter’s orders on Wednesday.
A host of races will take place at the racecourse over the next few months, beginning this week with the three-day Perth Festival.
Attendances are expected to be high over the season, with Ladies’ Day and the City of Perth Gold Cup being two of the most-anticipated events taking place.
There are also a series of summer races being held at Perth Racecourse, including Armed Forces Race Day and Rock at the Races.
Sam Morshead, general manager at the racecourse, said: “It’s amazing that we are celebrating 25 years of the festival this week. Since it started in 1989, it has exceeded all our expectations.
“We’re looking forward to a record 16 days’ racing this season and we had top jockeys Richard Johnson, Sam Twiston-Davies and Tom Scudamore all riding on Wednesday.”
