A serving soldier assaulted a man on a night out after an exchange of insults in the street.
John Cameron admitted mpunching and kicking Dylan Murray in the attack on Perth’s Canal Street on September 1 last year.
Perth Sheriff Court heard that the 23-year-old launched the attack at 3am as local nightclubs were beginning to empty.
John Malpass, depute fiscal, said insults had been shouted out, causing Cameron to retaliate. He then went after the group he perceived the taunts had come from.
Mr Malpass said: “He caught up with a person and assaulted him in the manner libelled. (The victim’s) injuries consisted of a sore wrist, grazing to the left cheek and swelling to the left eye. He was taken to hospital where an x-ray showed there was no bone injury.”
Solicitor Paul Ralph, defending, said Cameron had served his country on three tours abroad and was expecting his first child with his partner.
He said Cameron’s behaviour had been triggered by a friend, receiving “a crack in the face” and that he had got himself into a situation he should not have been in.
Sheriff Michael Fletcher fined Cameron, of Hall Park, Perth, £250.
