Pest sent 432 texts to woman after ‘struggling to get the message’ she wasn’t interested

An eager suitor inundated the object of his affections with more than 400 text messages in a three-month period, Perth Sheriff Court has heard.

Ryan Carroll met a woman on January 12 and they exchanged phone numbers. Over the next three weeks, he sent her 289 texts and, despite her asking him to stop, the 26-year-old continued to pursue her.

Depute fiscal Robbie Brown said: “She texted him, asking him to stop phoning her and saying that she wasn’t interested and that she was going to delete his number.”

The woman threatened to contact the police but Carroll failed to take the hint and between February 3 and April 27, he had sent a further 143 text messages.

Solicitor John Adams told the court his client had “struggled to get the message” and that the woman had been responding to his texts.

Carroll, of Iona Court, Perth, admitted that between January 12 and April 27, he caused annoyance, inconvenience and needless anxiety by sending text messages to a woman.

Sheriff Fiona Tait deferred sentence until August 27 for good behaviour.
