A charity has been given £300 to stage an event at a £130-a-night hotel.
The Perth branch of MacMillan Cancer was handed the cash by the city’s common good fund, despite councillors questioning if it could be held elsewhere.
The group plans to hold a two-day clothes fair in the Royal George Hotel in July.
A report submitted to councillors said: “The organisation has never benefited from the fund. It is recommended that Perth Common Good Fund Committee award a grant of £300 in line with the guidance.
“The grant will contribute to social inclusion.”
Councillors questioned whether the group could be given the use of a local authority building for the event but were told that any organisation would be charged for hiring council facilities.
Alternative venues suggested by some councillors were currently unavailable.
