A couple are to run round every senior football stadium in Scotland to raise money for the charity which supported them following the death of their son.
Ian and Michelle Watt’s baby, Callum, was stillborn earlier this year and the pair turned to the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death charity (Sands) for help.
Starting at the ground of League Two side Berwick Rangers, Shielfield Park, the Watts and a group of friends plan to take in all 42 stadiums in just three days.
At each venue, friend Grant MacLeod has played his bagpipes, before doing the run dressed in a kilt and Ian’s brother, Kevin, has made them a pie to eat at every venue.
On Monday the group arrived in Courier Country, passing through grounds at Falkirk, Stenhousemuir, East Stirling and Alloa.
They then took in the stadiums of Dunfermline Athletic, Cowdenbeath, Raith Rovers and East Fife before moving on to Perthshire to run round McDiarmid Park.
On Tuesday they will begin in Aberdeenshire before heading south through Angus stopping at Brechin, Montrose, Arbroath and Forfar.
They will make their shortest trip between grounds when they arrive in Dundee and take on Dens and Tannadice, which sit just 200 yards apart.
The final day will see them run around Stirling Albion’s ground before tackling the west of Scotland. So far they have raised more than £4,000 after setting an initial target of £2,000.
Ian, 34, said: “We chose this particular challenge as we were inspired by Robbie Savage and Alan Shearer sitting on every seat in Wembley.
“We asked Aberdeen FC if we could do it but they were unable to accommodate us so we adapted our challenge to run round the ground. Then we decided to make it a big challenge and run around every Scottish professional football stadium.”
Ian, who has family in Angus, said he and his wife wanted to give something back after Sands helped them during their grief.
He said: “Sands provided us with a memory box that allows us to cherish the short time that we had with our gorgeous boy, Callum Watt, whom we lost at the beginning of the year.
“We have both been hugely affected by this traumatic experience.
“This year should have been one of the happiest of our life but unfortunately it has been our most upsetting.
The charity has been amazing. They offer support and advice for bereaved parents and we want to ensure others continue to receive these valuable services.”
