Disabled man rejects council’s compensation offer after his car was crushed

A disabled Perthshire man has rejected an offer of £1,000 compensation after his car was crushed as he lay in hospital.
Hector McKay, 63, who has Multiple Sclerosis, parked his Nissan Almera Tino on a piece of ground he says he owns at Heron Rise in Dundee in March and returned a few weeks later to find it had been towed away and crushed.
Items inside the car including a wheelchair and a hoist were also destroyed.
He has since pursued the case with Dundee City Council, which has offered him £1,000 which it says matches the value of the 2004-plate vehicle, though he disputes that figure.
He could now speak to a solicitor after being told the council will not negotiate further.
“I should have just hired a car and billed them for it,” he said.
“It’s been really terrible.”
Dundee City Council says it is continuing discussions with Mr McKay.
