A man who was caught with a bag containing around £4,700 worth of drugs has been jailed for eight months at Perth Sheriff Court.
Depute fiscal Chris Macintosh told the court that police officers arrived around 5pm at a flat in Perth and detected a “strong smell of cannabis”.
“The accused, Edward Lyons, was sitting in a seat but jumped up when the police arrived and threw a black rucksack on to the veranda and a smaller bag on to the floor,” he said.
“The rucksack had 470 grammes of cannabis in it, with this being divided into 90 small amounts. This was worth around £4,700.”
He added that the other bag contained 2.3 grammes of the drug.
Defence solicitor John McLaughlin said the drugs were found in a flat where his client was not living at the time.
Lyons, 29, of Logie Crescent, Perth, admitted being in possession of cannabis a class B drug at Pomarium Flats, Pomarium Street, Perth, on May 16 2012.
Sentencing Lyons, Sheriff Fiona Tait told him there was no alternative to a custodial sentence given the “nature of the offence”.
