Investigations into the identities of two bodies found at the foot of Kinnoull Hill are continuing.
The remains were discovered on Monday afternoon during a search for a local man.
It is understood that both bodies are male and one is believed to be that of a 55-year-old reported missing by his family.
Aided by a specialist mountain rescue team, officers from Police Scotland spent several hours searching for any sign of the man.
Unfortunately, during their investigation, the teams were horrified to discover not one but two bodies close together in a heavily wooded area at around 3.30pm.
It is not known how long the second body had lain at the scene and police have confirmed there is no link between the two individuals.
A spokesperson said: “There is no known connection between the bodies and no apparent suspicious circumstances.
“Positive lines of inquiry are being conducted with regard to the identity of each individual. As with all sudden deaths, a report to the procurator fiscal will be submitted in due course.”
