One of the biggest road engineering projects ever undertaken in Scotland could have a devastating impact on the value of Perthshire properties, it has been claimed.
Transport Scotland is planning to close the majority of private access tracks on the notorious road as part of the £3 billion dualling project, leading to “substantial detours” for motorists perhaps for lengthy periods that could see property values being slashed.
The Courier can reveal several objections have been made regarding dualling the most southern section of the A9 from Luncarty to Pass of Birnam in Perthshire.
A number of these objections have been lodged by estate agents Savills and are now being considered by Transport Scotland.
Alex Cook, chairman of Luncarty, Redgorton and Moneydie Community Council, said he felt the road junction closures could have a serious affect on many local properties.
“While the road should be dualled, the word used to describe this is a blight on properties, affecting their availability,” he said.
“I feel many property owners should be able to claim compensation as a result of this.”
This view is strongly backed by Savills, who claim some local residents face “years of uncertainty” as they wait to find out if their property will be affected by the A9 junction closures.
