The Courier’s Referendum Roadshow has been in Perth and Scone.
Lib Dem councillor Lewis Simpson and his Conservative counterpart Dennis Melloy, who have been working alongside each other for the Better Together campaign, both as you would expect argued the case for Scotland remaining in the Union.
But another visitor, former Conservative councillor Paul Leslie, revealed he has come to the conclusion that he is going to vote Yes.
“I believe that the present political system in the UK is broken and needs radical change,” he said.
“I supported devolution and the Scottish Parliament is doing a good job. I want to see a new centre-right party in Scotland.
“I think the referendum is a great opportunity but at the end of the day we have to get on together and respect the result.”
The poll in Scone revealed 78% for a No vote and 22% Yes. The roadshow parked up in Perth’s High Street in the afternoon.
Yes voter George Dowler, 36, from Perth, said: “I have always supported the idea of Scotland as an independent country. To me it makes sense, we would have control over our own destiny.”
Conservative councillor Alexander Stewart, who is heavily involved in the Better Together campaign, said that he was getting a positive response when he goes out speaking to the public.
“We could be an independent nation, that is not in question, but at what cost?” he said.
The Perth vote was 49% Yes and 51% No.
