T in the Park forced to find new home because of oil pipeline fears
ByAlan Wilson
This year’s T in the Park will be the last to be held at Balado, near Kinross.
The Courier understands Scotland’s biggest live music festival is to move to a secret location nearby, still in Perth & Kinross, with plans already in place for the 2015 event.
Organisers are remaining tight-lipped about its new location but insiders say problems with the Forties oil pipeline, which runs underneath Balado farm, has seen the Health & Safety Executive insist on a move.
The HSE said in a statement that they had consistently raised “substantial concerns” about holding the event on a site bisected by a major crude oil pipeline and warned that, while the chances were low, if any major accident happened the consequences would be “catastrophic.”
Last year The Courier revealed that event organiser DF Concerts had commissioned surveys of other sites in Perth & Kinross, including at Braco Farm and Strathallan Airfield.
Other sites being looked at, The Courier understands, include a large swathe of land covering several separate farms, near the Gleneagles estate.
