Dangerous junctions on the A9 may need urgent action before Strathallan Estate becomes the new home of T in the Park, it has been warned.
Turnings at Auchterarder and Aberuthven will become the main means of access to the 1,000-acre site for the thousands of revellers who will descend on the area for the first time next summer.
The junctions have, however, been blighted by serious accidents in the past and campaigners have long called for their upgrade.
Local politicians believe they will now need to be examined as a matter of urgency before next year’s festival goes ahead and have called for detailed consultation with communities and Transport Scotland.
Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser said: “Keeping the event within Perth and Kinross can only be good news for the area.
“But bringing such a large event to a site that is accessed in the most part by narrow country lanes will present a considerable logistical challenge and Perth and Kinross Council will need to address this.
“Furthermore, although the A9 leading to Auchterarder is dualled, there are issues regarding the safety of junctions adjoining the road and with such a large volume of traffic using the A9 during the festival, there are bound to be concerns.”
One possible option for organisers could be to utilise the infrastructure being put in place for the Ryder Cup.
Transport Scotland said: “We are focused on travel plans for the major events in 2014, including the Commonwealth Games, the Ryder Cup and this year’s T in the Park.
“We and Traffic Scotland look forward to working with the event organiser and will look to use lessons learned from the Ryder Cup to help with this process.”
