A spate of accidents on the A9 has raised the stakes for T in the Park bosses ahead of next year’s move to Strathallan.
The move will put unprecedented strain on the road and the stretch between the dangerous junctions at Auchterarder and Aberuthven in particular.
Event organisers have pledged to make heavy use of “park and ride” as the first music fans make their way to Strathallan Castle next year, diverting a significant amount of traffic away from the road.
However, the community remains to be convinced the roads can accommodate the event safely.
During July alone there have been three separate accidents on the A9 at Auchterarder the most serious claiming the life of a 79-year-old Glasgow man.
A9 safety campaigner Murdo Fraser MSP said: “Recent accidents at these junctions underline longstanding road safety issues and T in the Park organisers must demonstrate how they plan to deal with travelling music fans that won’t be using the park and ride service.
“They must work together with their partners to understand the transport issues and ensure that all necessary precautions are taken to ensure that the Auchterarder and Aberuthven junctions are as safe as possible.”
A spokesman for T in the Park said the accidents “would not go unnoticed” and stressed safety was the “number one priority”.
“Our traffic management plan will be devised by our experts after taking advice and in collaboration with Police Scotland, Perth and Kinross Council and the local community,” they said.
