An angler drove at more than twice the legal drink-drive limit after an argument with his fishing buddies.
Archibald Armstrong crashed his Suzuki Swift on an unclassified road near Loch Earn and nearby holidaymakers alerted the police, who identified the 68-year-old as the driver of the vehicle.
Armstrong was breathalysed and found to have 87 mic of alcohol in his system, 2 times the limit of 35 mic.
Depute fiscal Tina Dickie told Perth Sheriff Court that a camper left his tent to investigate when he heard a collision at around midnight.
“The vehicle engine was still running when he saw the accused exit the driver’s side,” she went on.
Solicitor David Sinclair, defending, said Armstrong had travelled from his home in Airdire for a day’s fishing on Loch Earn.
He had an argument with his friends and made the “stupid decision” to drive to another area to sleep, said Mr Sinclair.
“He intended to drive to the other end of Loch Earn to a place he could sleep for the rest of the night.
“It is with deep regret that he couldn’t find a more rational way of dealing with it.”
He added that Armstrong would suffer a degree of inconvenience with the loss of his licence but that he holds a bus pass which will allow him to remain mobile.
Armstrong admitted that on Sunday at the unclassified South Loch Earn road, near the junction with Ardvorlich House, he drove with excess alcohol.
Sheriff Michael Fletcher fined Armstrong, of Bankhead Avenue, Airdrie, £500. He also banned him from the road for 17 months.
