A kind-hearted Perthshire youngster is using the craze that is sweeping the world to help a sick school friend.
Isla Kennedy skilfully weaves tiny rubber loom bands into bracelets, which she then sells for £1 each.
All the money raised will be given to charities which have helped friend Amber Stewart, who was diagnosed with leukaemia in December 2012.
The six-year-old, who lives in Pitlochry, has already had orders for her bands from as far afield as Manchester.
Isla said: “Amber is my friend and she wasn’t well. I wanted to do something to help her. I like making loom bands so I decided on something I enjoy to help my friend.”
Working from her HQ at the home of her “auntie” Joyce Bruce, Isla has already produced hundreds of bracelets and raised more than £100.
The money raised will be split between ward 29 at Ninewells Hospital and Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia (TCCL).
Amber, who is also six, is undergoing two and a half years of treatment at Ninewells.
“It’s nice that Isla is helping me,” she said. “I’m glad she’s my best friend and I am lucky to have her.”
Isla’s mum Savannah said the girls have a strong bond despite Amber missing months of school due to her illness.
The 32-year-old said: “When she found out Amber was unwell it affected her quite badly. She asked millions of questions and was quite concerned.
“There are some positives Isla is less selfish and more aware of others. It’s a friendship for life.”
She added: “I’m really proud of Isla we have completely supported her and she has embraced it (fundraising).
“She’s been out at the local bus stop every second night with a tray and she tells people the story the other night she made £37.
“She wants to raise as much as possible she won’t stop until people tell her to stop. Everyone is buying them and even if they don’t she’ll chase them until they do.”
Savannah said her sister, who lives in Manchester, had told her workmates about Isla’s project.
“Her boss said to send 30 loom bands and they would give us £60,” she said.
Amber’s mum Karen said: “It’s touching because it’s a child that’s done this off her own back, without prompting, to help another child.”
Isla’s bracelets can be bought through her Loom Bands for Charity Facebook page or at the Ballinluig fun day on Saturday.
