A man has appeared in court accused of attempting to murder a serving police officer.
Gordon Dewar is alleged to have attacked PC Neil Hunter in a field near St Dominic’s School in Crieff on Saturday.
In a private hearing at Perth Sheriff Court on Monday, Dewar appeared from the cells and made no plea or declaration.
The case was continued for further examination and Dewar was remanded in custody. It is alleged that Dewar uttered threats and produced a knife towards the on-duty officer.
The 24-year-old is then said to have made a motion to throw the knife at PC Hunter and to have threatened to stab him in the neck.
Dewar is then alleged to have lunged at the police officer, causing him to fall backwards to the ground, before running towards him and standing over him with the knife raised above his head.
He is then said to have driven the knife down towards PC Hunter and attempted to stab him in the face and neck in an attempt to murder him.
At the same place and time, he is said to have assaulted PC Hunter and his colleague PC Russell Duffy by shouting, swearing and brandishing a knife towards them.
Dewar faces a string of other charges allegedly committed on the same date.
It is said that on Crieff’s King Street, Union Terrace, School Wynd and in the field behind St Dominic’s School he was in possession of a knife.
Dewar, of no fixed abode, is also accused of robbing Stuart McDowell of vehicle keys at knifepoint on the town’s King Street before trying to steal his van.
On Union Terrace he is said to have taken a set of keys from Virgilo Cruz Jr at knifepoint, as well as a third set from Malcolm Copland at a store on School Wynd.
On the town’s Union Terrace, he is accused of standing in the road, forcing Hugh Hanvey to stop his car and trying to rob him of the vehicle.
He is said to have damaged the wing mirror of a van on Union Terrace and, on School Wynd, the rear window of a van and an office window at the Handy Shop.
Dewar will appear again at a later date.
