The nursing watchdog has suspended a care home boss who was caught looking at pornography while on duty.
David Campbell admitted accessing adult material while employed as deputy manager of Ashlea House Nursing and Residential Home in Callander.
He quit his post after shocked colleagues discovered he had viewed several web pages containing pornographic content on January 16 last year.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) ruled that Campbell’s fitness to practise was impaired and banned him from the profession for 12 months.
His colleagues at the home discovered the suspect web pages and a check of the rotas revealed that Campbell was the only member of staff on duty who needed access to the computer.
Campbell was suspended from work on April 6 and he resigned in June.
The NMC misconduct panel heard that Campbell accessed several pages around half an hour before he was due to finish his shift. He had visited an adult website and viewed several sections, including one entitled “grannies”.
The panel heard that he had earlier denied accessing the site but admitted deleting the internet history after being spoken to by the home manager about the incident.
The NMC misconduct panel agreed that Campbell’s actions “fell short of what would have been proper in the circumstances”.
In their decision, the panel members said: “The parties agree that the registrant’s behaviour was wholly inappropriate in that he accessed pornography whilst at work on the work’s computer, whilst on duty.
“There is no evidence that any harm has come to any residents in his care. However, it is noted that the registrant works with vulnerable adults.
“The parties agree that, given the nature of the misconduct, it may be difficult to remediate.
“The parties agree . . . that the appropriate sanction in this case is a 12-month suspension order.”
Ashlea House, which is part of a group of care homes owned by Mauricare Drumpark Limited, cares for up to 25 residents, some of whom have physical and learning disabilities.
